Through 20 seasons of adrenaline-fueled adventures on the Bearing Sea, one three-minute sequence caught Deadliest Catch viewers by surprise – a brutal rogue wave slammed into Fishing Vessel Wizard, as THREE of Captain Keith Colburn‘s crew members were injured in a single incident!

With the camera capturing the devastating blow, the entire front of the ship was engulfed by water. Knowing how terrifying it looked from the wheelhouse, Captain Keith lifted the phone, looking for communication from his crew as he feared that someone could have been whisked overboard. After a delay in response, Captain Keith raced down to check on his crew, only to learn that the crashing ocean water had knocked his team around.

With Season 21 only days away, it’s inevitable that more action is set to grace our screens. Often, when we discuss terrifying or intense situations, we examine moments that might involve a single crew member injured or put in a life-threatening moment. But aboard F/V Wizard, it was a three-in-one nightmare beyond belief.

F/V Wizard Experienced Three Injuries At Once on ‘Deadliest Catch’

Traveling back to Season 5, Episode 9, titled “No Second Chances,” Captain Keith found himself in a terrifying position that began when a massive wave crashed upon the bow of the Wizard. Below deck, Captain Keith learned that three of his crew members were seriously injured: deckhand Lynn Guitard was left with a gnarly contusion over his left eye and lower back, his brother, Relief Captain Monte “Mouse” Colburn, injured his ribs after being thrown against the drag anchor, and First Mate Gary Soper had contusion below his left eye. As he learned the fate of his team, he reprimanded the uninjured deckhands that he had been screaming to abort. As the three deckhands were tended to, there was instant fear that internal damage could have been done as well. In the end, F/V Wizard was forced to head back to Dutch Harbor.

With only so many individuals aboard at one time, potentially being down three bruised and battered deckhands could cause irreparable delays to the work at hand. More importantly, if the conditions worsen, there would be three fewer bodies to race into action. Regardless, the terrifying moment showcased that injuries onboard are not always relegated to one party. One wave can cause destruction to anyone and anything in its path.

The daring men and women who put their lives at risk on Deadliest Catch deserve a round of applause for their bravery. Working under the unpredictable conditions in the Bering Sea during crabbing season is not for the faint of heart. Fans Await To Learn Captain Keith’s Fate on ‘Deadliest Catch’

When it comes to terrifying moments on F/V Wizard, the crew are no stranger to danger. Perhaps being the one to take the lead in the past, his crew learned from their leader to help him in his time of need. At the start of Season 20, the Wizard faced a brutal fire on board. The fire that started below deck caused Captain Keith to go into a tizzy as the crew discovered they were missing one of their own, Tyler Gateman. The deckhand was eventually discovered behind a wall of fire, screaming for help. Captain Keith’s prior guidance helped the crew hoist Tyler to safety.

In the latter half of the season, it was Captain Keith who fell victim to a terrifying health moment. The beloved captain suffered a medical emergency after suffering a cardiac incident. With his brother, Monte, initially believing it was a joke, things turned serious when his symptoms grew worse. After being raced to safety on shore, it was revealed he had a mini-stroke. As much as he wanted to return to work, his doctors advised him it would not be for the best. And that’s where Captain Keith left off at the tail end of the season.

Captain Keith hasn’t been sharing any updates on his health, but rest assured, fans will be able to see him on Season 21. This season, the Deadliest Catch fleet will be heading to Adak Island for another high-stakes race to hit their crabbing quota. Though he wasn’t featured in the teaser trailer, it’s been revealed he will be a part of the cast, likely sharing what’s happened since cameras stopped rolling. Joining the lineup at sea alongside Captain Keith include Captain Sig Hansen (F/V Northwestern), Captain Johnathan Hillstrand (F/V Time Bandit), Captain Jake Anderson (F/V Titan Explorer), Captain Steve “Harley” Davidson (F/V Confidence), Captain Rick Shelford (F/V Aleutian Lady), and Captain Sophia “Bob” Nielsen (F/V Aleutian Lady).

Deadliest Catch Season 21 returns to Discovery Channel on August 1st. All episodes are available to stream on HBO Max.
