Is Jensen Ackles Going to Be in ‘Tracker’ Season 3? Read What He Said About Returning to the Show
The Boys star appeared on seasons 1 and 2 of the CBS drama.
Jensen Ackles may be super busy with the release of his new series Countdown, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on June 25, but there’s a possibility he may also be returning to a show viewers love.
Back in April 2024, fans saw the Supernatural alum pop up in Tracker season 1 as Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley)’s estranged older brother Russell. While the character only appeared in two episodes that season, audiences were invested in how Colter interacted with the ones who know him best. So, when Jensen came back to reprise his role as Russell for Tracker season 2 in 2025, his cameo was well received by fans.
Now, followers of the CBS drama are eager to see Tracker return for season 3 … and they want to know if Jensen will return once again. As it turns out, Jensen shared some insight on the subject when he spoke to Collider for an interview published in June.
“We are discussing that as we speak,” he told the outlet. “That is being talked about, so yeah, I would hope so. Justin [Hartley] is a dear friend of mine and getting to play with him is always a fun thing. So, yeah, there are talks of bringing me back. To what capacity, I’m not sure yet.”
CBS Photo ArchiveBut fans have to remember that Jensen is a busy man these days, between working on Countdown and wrapping The Boys season 5. And as for why Russell hasn’t had a bigger role on the show, Tracker executive producer Elwood Reid shared it had to do with Jensen’s commitment to his previous projects.
“It’s so f***ing hard to get their schedules,” he explained to TV Insider. I mean, Jensen and I are friends. He was on a previous show of mine [Big Sky]. I love the guy. I text him all the time. I’m like, I’ll take three hours of you. He’s very busy as you know in The Boys universe. So when we can get him, we can get him.”
Even though we don’t yet know how Jensen’s character will be folded into the new season of Tracker, at least there’s a chance we’ll get to see Russell and Colter back on screen together!
And as for Colter’s future on Tracker season 3, viewers are hopefully going to get more clues in the mystery behind his dad’s death, which has been a major plot line since the beginning. Will Russell know the details of what happened? We’ll just have to keep an eye out if and when he makes a grand return.
