1000-Lb Sisters star dies aged 37 – her family mourn her as ‘a force to be reckoned with’
1000-Lb Sisters‘ Slaton family are mourning the devastating loss of their cousin, Katie Slaton, 37, after stage four cancer battle.
Katie appeared on numerous episodes of the show, including when Tammy was released from a weight loss rehabilitation centre in Season 5.
Tammy and Amy’s sister Amanda Halterman announced the news, “with a completely crushed heart and spirit”.
“My little cousin went to sit at the feet of Jesus yesterday. She was a force to be reckoned with and showed love that was accepting and given freely,” Amanda wrote on Instagram.
“She was the life of the party and my best friend. I know both our grandparents and friends [were] there to welcome you home.”
Amanda asked for prayers for everyone who loved Katie, especially her partner Natalie Gerrick Bailie, and thanked those who supported her, concluding her post with “#cancersucks”.
Katie’s cancer became known in January, after she was diagnosed with Stage 4 gastric adenocarcinoma, an advanced form of stomach cancer.
Fans quickly sent their condolences to the family.
“Godspeed to your cousin. My heart goes out to all of you. Recently lost a very young cousin to cancer, and it’s devastating. Holding you all close to my heart,” one wrote.
“Love love LOVE you the most Amanda! My heart goes out to you❤️💐🕊️” shared another.

At the time of writing, no other members of the Slaton family, including Tammy and Amy, had publicly responded to their cousin’s death.
The extended Slaton family first rose to international fame in 2020, when 1000-Lb Sisters premiered.
The show follows the weight loss journey of Tammy and her sister Amy who had a combined weight of more than 1000lbs (453.5kg).

Throughout the seasons, many of the sisters’ family members, including Amanda, have become beloved parts of the cast.
Over the span of the series, fans have watched Tammy and Amy’s struggles and triumphs as they embarked on a mammoth journey to feel healthier in themselves.
Since the start of the series, Tammy has lost more than 500lbs (226kgs), with the TV star taking to her social media to share healthy eating, exercise and mental health tips that have assisted her in her weight loss journey in a bid to be an example to others.
