What Is ‘Tracker’s Leonard Sharf Hiding — and Could It Connect to Colter’s Complicated Past?

For several episodes now, Tracker has been building Pej Vahdat‘s Leonard “Leo” Sharf into a bigger character (and possibly a major threat to be heeded going forward). Little is known about Reenie Greene’s (Fiona Rene) newest and most mysterious client, but from what we can tell in the latest episode, “The Mercy Seat,” it’s become clear that his role as a corporate shark is one not to be trifled with. But how will Sharf’s schemes play into the larger Tracker story? Well, it could just be that he has a deeper connection to Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) than we at first recognize.

Could ‘Tracker’s Latest Mystery Man Be Connected to the Shaw Family?

Why Tracker thought it necessary to bring a character like Leonard Sharf into Colter’s world — or, at least, his peripherals — is still somewhat unclear. He has been a looming and ever-present force in Reenie’s new practice for quite some time now, and it’s only recently that he and Colter’s resident lawyer have come face-to-face. He’s quite a mysterious figure, and shady doesn’t even begin to cover how we feel about him so far. From what we can tell, he seems to be hiding something from his latest hire, but we just don’t know what. Now, this may be reaching a bit, but what if he somehow factors into the Shaw family’s messy past? What if there’s a connection between Sharf and the death of Ashton Shaw (Lee Tergesen)?

Okay, this may be pure speculation, but we do know that Sharf is keeping something quite close to his chest. He even tells his assistant in “The Mercy Seat” that there is something he knows that Reenie will discover about him eventually, but is seemingly unwilling to come out and reveal it himself. More than likely, Sharf knows that his attorney-client privilege would keep Reenie from spilling the beans about whatever this secret may be, even to someone as close to her as Colter. The real twist here would be if Sharf is in some way connected to Ashton Shaw or even Colter’s brother Russell (Jensen Ackles). Considering the undefined connections between the Shaws and the government, maybe that’s how Sharf first became acquainted? Or, perhaps there’s some other family connection between them?

Either way, we can’t help but feel like Sharf is trying to use Reenie to either get close to or possibly even manipulate Colter. Given that Tracker could easily have been named “The Colter Shaw Show,” we can expect almost every plotline to tie back to our hero eventually. What if this is it? Again, we’re speculating here. It’s unlikely that Sharf was the one who killed Ashton Shaw himself, since he appears to be around the same age as Colter and Russell. However, stranger things have happened, and it’s likely we don’t know the full story. Justin Hartley has revealed that this back half of Season 2 will dive back into the Shaw family drama. With that in mind, it seems like Leonard Sharf may be smack in the middle of it.

Is Reenie in Over Her Head With This New Client?

From his first scenes with Reenie in Season 2, Episode 14’s “Exodus,” Sharf has made it clear that he likes what he likes, and he is rarely ever denied. Even in small things, such as the way Reenie’s law office is set up, he finds the imperfections and requests a change. As usual, Reenie stands her ground, but how long can that last? Depending on who Sharf really is (and his true intentions behind hiring Reenie), it’s possible that our favorite CBS lawyer may accidentally stumble into the deep end with a shark she can’t out swim. Though there’s still a lot we don’t know about Sharf, he appears to be a wealthy man with more resources than folks like Reenie and Colter could fathom. There is no telling what sorts of connections (not to mention enemies) this man has made over the years, nor exactly what sort of trouble that could spell for Reenie.

While Season 2 has done an excellent job of expanding both Colter and Reenie’s respective operations, a man like Leonard Sharf could put all of that at risk. Compared to the first season, which contained only one over-arching plot thread in Colter’s mysterious past, Season 2 has upped the ante by adding several new elements to the narrative, with Sharf being one of the most elusive. With only a handful of episodes left this season, Tracker is setting the stage for a powerful finale, one that will hopefully bring at least some answers to these pending questions. If Leo Sharf is indeed somehow involved in the Shaw family’s affairs, it’s about time that Colter does something about it.
